Noteworthy: Atlas Magazine

In 1995, webpages were pretty much text and crude graphics, but Atlas Magazine made it clear that there was a place for design on the Web. In fact, their pages still look great nearly 20 years later. Yes, the pages are narrow, but in those days our monitors were 800 pixels wide MAX and we only had 256 colors to work with! So when you see what they were able to accomplish with so few resources, it’s really kind of mind blowing…

Anyway, I’m sharing this historical note with you because the other day on Note to Self, I read that scallops are in for Spring — hooray! And then my mind drifted back to my fond memories of Atlas Magazine’s masterful use of scallop borders in its Winter 1998 issue… Of course, this can only mean one thing: another scallops tutorial and this time, it’s going to be a brush (don’t worry, there’s just a couple more brush tutorials and that’s it, pinky swear). You can see my first scallops tutorial — a scallops frame tutorial — right over here. Disclosure: The scallops frame tut was my first tutorial and it really shows. Someday when I have time, I’m going to update it. :)
