Sister Magazine, Issue No. 7 is out! It’s the Italian issue and the pictures of Florence are heart-wrenchingly lovely — they make me think of A Room With a View. Besides the lovely travel, fashion, and food photography, the layouts caught my attention. I’m especially fond of the forms and draftsman-like labels used on many of the photo spreads. Since this post, I’ve been brainstorming a way to incorporate boxy rectilinear shapes into a tutorial, like an HTML table tutorial or something. I thought this was a pretty good idea for an exercise until I saw Toni and Thea’s take on a similar concept. They incorporated these industrial elements (masculine straight lines and sharp corners) seamlessly and elegantly into the lush, feminine photo-spreads that you’ll find throughout Sister Magazine — the contrast really sparkles.
Check out Sister Mag — it’s smart, lovely, and fun. Really good stuff!
