Hi everyone, here’s the screencast I promised that shows how to use Pugly Pixel’s blog photo templates. I’m using Blog Photo Templates (Part 7) in the demo, but you can watch this video and apply what you learn to customize the other photo templates you may already have.
In addition to learning how to use the templates, you will learn how to do other basic operations in Adobe Photoshop:

Hey guys, I was thinking again how useful photo templates are and I thought it would be fun to offer a set as a freebie. Besides, PuglyPixel’s anniversary is coming up and I want to express my appreciation to everyone who has dropped by the blog over the last year.
I know how time consuming it can be to organize pictures for a blog post and photo templates can give you a head start. This free download has 9 customizable blog photo templates and they come with fabric labels in 6 different colors. If you’re not a Photoshop user, you can download the PNG set by themselves. And if you have Photoshop, you can download the set with the PSD files. I hope you enjoy these and find them useful.

Moments before I bought my Rilakkuma iPhone screen protector, I was in a deep trance over a Rilakkuma mechanical pencil that cost $17. SEVENTEEN DOLLARS, people — ONE-SEVEN. Perched on top of this bright yellow pencil was Rilakkuma himself and in each of his hands was a donut. And every time I advanced the lead, he raised an arm and took a bite out of one of his donuts. In my trance, I imagined myself parting with a measly $17 and leaving the store with this perfect pencil and feeling it was worth every penny. Donut-eating Rilakkuma is to die for.

Hey guys, here are some ad images from a 1920′s publication. I tell ya, there were some interesting advertisements in those days. The catch words were different, but the tone was very similar to modern TV infomercials, with plenty of find true love, lose extra pounds, and get rich quick schemes!
Anyway, I scanned a couple of pages and extracted these objects and cleaned them up. Most of the images are in black and white, but as you can see, some are colored in shades of red. There are 17 clips in all and members can download the single 2200 x 3200 pixel PNG file after the jump.

As you may have noticed, I’ve updated Pugly Pixel. For instance, I replaced the navigation image rollovers with simple text links. And, since my blog is primarily shades of gray these days, I decided to add a dash of color to my banner. I constantly tweak my layout, so I don’t usually announce these small changes — it’s kinda like announcing to the world that I just changed my socks — not a big deal. But, I’m going to talk about these recent changes and share with you why I removed certain features and adopted others.

About two years ago, my favorite Vietnamese sandwich place, Little Paris, closed down and broke my heart. Delicious $2 sandwiches were gone forever!
Then, last month, I stumbled upon another Vietnamese sandwich shop literally just around the corner from the old Little Paris cafe, right across the street from Green Apple Books at 6th and Clement. YUM.

Hey guys, I wanna share a simple and fun Photoshop tutorial with you: learn how to make your own digital staples in any color you like. Staples are a cute decorative alternative to digital masking or washi tape. The screencast takes about 4 minutes, so it’s a pretty quick watch. However, if you want to use these in your blog posts right away, feel free to download the free or extra versions after the jump.

We’ve learned how to use webfonts and CSS text-shadows. Let’s take what we’ve learned so far and try something new: let’s layer text on photos (img) using only CSS. So today, I’m going to show you how to place some text on your images. This is a useful technique for websites and blog banners — you can edit the text, change fonts, colors, and positions on the fly — quickly and easily with CSS.
Take a look at the images on this very post. The text on the photos is not part of the image — it’s HTML styled with CSS. I used the Bebas webfont, CSS text-shadows, and as you will see in the screencast, I used CSS to layer the text on the photos. Sorry, guys — no music in this screencast. I’m looking for more music and until I find it, it’s just me yakking. :)

Two-Tailed Siren, Starbucks logo | color palette details
As you can see, I’ve been playing with my stash of micro-beads and glitter. In addition to blinging up my Starbucks coffee sleeve, I’ve embellished more shipping tags, this time with circles and triangles. I’m still processing those photos and I hope to show them to you soon.
It’s been a wonderful day here in my part of the world. I hope it’s lovely where you are, too. ♥
